Why BothLang Prioritizes Your Privacy
I'll be honest about something most extension makers gloss over: a translation tool, by its nature, can read the content of the pages you visit. It has to — that's how it knows what to translate. So when you install one, you're trusting whoever built it not to abuse that access. That's a real concern, and if you've hesitated over it, your instinct is correct. It's the right thing to be careful about.
So rather than ask you to take "we respect your privacy" on faith, here's what BothLang actually does.
We don't keep your reading
BothLang doesn't collect or store your browsing history, full stop. When you translate something, the text gets processed and the result comes back to you. We don't hold onto that content on our servers beyond the moment it takes to do the translation, and we're not building a profile of what you read. The pages you visit are your business.
We don't make money off you
This is the part that matters most, because it's where most "free" extensions quietly go wrong. The standard playbook for free browser tools is to track what users do and sell that behavioral data to third parties — you're not the customer, you're the product. BothLang doesn't operate that way. Our model is to charge for premium features for the people who want them, not to monetize the people who don't by selling their data. There's no data to sell because we don't collect it.
The connection is encrypted
Every connection between your browser and the translation servers runs over SSL/TLS encryption. In plain terms, that means the text moving back and forth can't be read by someone sitting in the middle — your ISP, someone on the same coffee-shop wifi, whoever. It's the same kind of encryption your bank uses, and it's not optional.
And you stay in control
BothLang only does anything when you want it to. You can switch it off entirely, or set it to run on some sites and stay out of the way on others. If there's a page you'd rather it never touch, you can tell it that. The default is that nothing happens until you ask.
None of this requires giving up convenience. You can read across languages all day and not have to wonder where your data went, because the answer is that it didn't go anywhere. That's the whole point.
