Big Update: BothLang Now Works on All Websites + AI Translation!
We built BothLang to fix one problem: reading Reddit in a language you're learning. That still works, and it's still the thing most people use it for, but as of today it's not the only thing it does. BothLang now translates any website you point it at, and we've added AI-powered translation that handles context and slang in a way the old approach never could.
It works on every site now
The Reddit focus was deliberate — we wanted to nail one thing before sprawling — but the requests to expand it have been consistent enough that we couldn't ignore them. So we didn't. BothLang now runs on any page you visit: news sites, blogs, forums, documentation, social platforms beyond Reddit, anywhere you run into a language barrier.
The features you're used to come along with it. You still get bilingual mode if you want the original and the translation side by side. The privacy stance hasn't changed — we don't log what you read, we don't store your translations. And the interface stays out of your way until you ask for it, same as always.
AI translation, and why it matters
The original version of BothLang used Google Translate and Edge Translate, which are fast, free, and perfectly fine for straightforward sentences. But they fall apart the moment you hit idioms, slang, cultural references, or anything that depends on context to make sense. If you've ever seen a phrase translate to something technically accurate but completely wrong in tone, you know what I mean.
We've partnered with Google's Gemini AI to give you a translation option that actually understands what it's reading. It picks up on sarcasm, gets jokes, and interprets meaning rather than just swapping words. For language learners especially, that difference is huge — you're seeing how people really talk, not a sanitized textbook version of it.
The pricing, explained plainly
The free tier is still free and still useful. You get fifty translations a day using Google or Edge Translate, which is enough for most casual reading, and there's no credit card or signup friction. If you hit that limit or you want the AI upgrade, the paid plans are straightforward.
Pro at ten dollars a month gets you AI translations and priority support. The twenty-dollar tier raises the monthly translation cap. And there's a yearly option at ninety-six dollars if you'd rather pay once and not think about it, which works out to twenty percent less than monthly.
The AI translation costs us real money per request, which is why it's gated behind the paid plans. The free tier isn't a teaser that stops working — it's a genuinely useful tool that we're keeping available because removing language barriers shouldn't require a credit card.
Privacy stays non-negotiable
Adding AI doesn't change how we handle your data, which is to say we don't. BothLang doesn't track your reading, doesn't store your translations, and doesn't sell anything to anyone. When you use the AI option, the translation request goes directly from your browser to Google's servers, same as it would if you were using Google Translate yourself. We're not in the middle of that.
Get started, or just keep using what you've got
If you're already using BothLang, nothing breaks. The free tier still does exactly what it did before, and the new features are opt-in. If you want to try the AI translation or take it beyond Reddit, the option's there now.

What we're working on next
This update was the big infrastructural lift. Now that BothLang works everywhere and has real AI backing it, the next set of features gets easier to build. We're adding better vocabulary tools so you can save and review words that trip you up. Cross-device sync is coming so your settings follow you. And we're looking at community features — ways to share useful translations or learn alongside other people tackling the same language.
If you've got questions or you run into something broken, reach us at support@bothlang.com. We'd rather hear about it than have you work around it quietly. 🌍
